Can You Use Face Moisturizer On Lips?

Have you ever thought about why we have different creams and moisturizers for different parts of our body, while logically it all applied on the skin? Similarly, why do we have different oils for hair and beard hair, while we know which hair is which but not our body?

My mind gets up to these questions randomly, and recently I got curious about whether one can use face moisturizer on lips or not. This made me get deep into the topic and find the real answer.

And if you are curious whether I found the answer then yes I did. So, if you want to know whether you can use face moisturizer on lips or not, then let yourself have time to read this blog.

Can you use face moisturizer on lips?

Yes, you can apply a pinch of moisturizer on your lips if you have no lip balm. However, using face moisturizer is not great for locking moisture in your lips in comparison to lip balm.

On top of that, moisturizer is thick and may feel greasy because the skin on the lips is very thin as compared to face skin.

Using moisturizer once in a while is not going to do anything. Overall, even if you apply moisturizer on your lips every day it will not going to do anything to your lips.

However, you should be cautious about some ingredients in your moisturizer like fragrance, harsh chemicals like AHAs or BHAs, or retinol as these can irritate the sensitive lips.

Greasiness is the primary problem when you use a moisturizer on your lips.

But for overall health, lip balm is better for lips because lips have very delicate skin.

If you are still confused about whether you can use face moisturizer on lips or not then knowing the difference between both might solve your confusion.

Difference between lip balm and face moisturizer

The main difference between lip balm and face moisturizer is the purpose they serve. Lip balm never comes with a tag of specific skin type (dry, oily, or combination) but when we talk about moisturizers, they come with specific skin types.

So, this means that you can use any lip balm without thinking twice but when it comes to face moisturizer, you should know what type of skin specific it is made for.

So, if you apply a moisturizer that is dry skin specific, then it is going to be thick and will make your lips greasy.

So, if you plan to use face moisturizer on your lips, oil skin-specific moisturizer is a better option as it has a light texture that will not make your lips greasy and hydrate lips more than other moisturizer.

Another difference is the ingredients. Ingredients in Face moisturizers can vary depending on the niche of it.

However, most moisturizers have one main ingredient which is Hyaluronic acid.

On the other hand lip balm has waxes (beeswax or candelilla wax) and shea butter. Wax helps to create the barrier while Shea butter helps trap the moisture in lips.

If you don’t want to use lip balm here is a simple care for your lips that you can do to maintain the health of your lips. I follow this and I’m pretty sure if you follow this you will get soft, pink lips.

Care for lips

Before applying on your lips it is good practice to clean your lips. You use a toothbrush on your lips. Gently brush your lips to get rid of any dryness.

This is very useful and I do it every day. But make sure you do it with a soft hand else it will leave a burning sensation on your lips.

If you are looking for fast results then the milk cream method will work best in making your lips hydrated and soft. If you want pink lips then scrub methods will work for you.

Brown sugar

Using sugar on lips has been proven to be one the natural and best ways in depigmentation of lips. But the key here is to use brown sugar.

After cleaning your lips, apply brown sugar on your lips and rub it gently for 2 minutes. Don’t overdo it. And then leave it for 10 to 15 minutes on your lips. After that wash down your lips.

You will see good results if you do it regularly.

Strawberry and raspberry

Berries have been proven to be very good for lips. They contain various minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Strawberry and raspberry have proven to be best for lightening the lips. To make sure your lips are also hydrated, you can mix the juice of strawberry with a spoon of aloe vera gel. If you don’t have alovera you can also use honey.

After mixing it, apply it to your lips and start rubbing. You can leave the paste on your lips for 20 minutes to get the best results.

If you do this regularly you will definitely get light and soft lips.

Milk cream

If you are looking for one of the best ways to keep your lips hydrated and soft then you can not miss this simple thing. All you have to do is apply milk cream on your lips before going to bed.

This has been by far the best treatment for my lips. My sister told me this and started doing this. You will notice your lips are hydrated and soft in the morning.

You should definitely try this method.

Now, there is no need to leave it for a night, however, I prefer to let it stay over my lips for a night.
